Scott Naismith
Scott Naismith uses vivid colours in a vigorous application to represent the fast-changing light conditions of the West coast of Scotland in his paintings.
His use of colour creates an emotional response to the subject while the tone of his work can remain representational. The love he has for his native Scottish countryside is deeply portrayed with an ebullient energy. Naismith specifically explores cloud cover and its effect on light and colour. Transitional skies act as a metaphor for light from darkness, in keeping with the overarching themes of hope and optimism. Scott regularly travels around the country looking for inspiration for another landscape painting
Naismith received a BDes degree in Illustration and Printmaking. He has been lecturing since 2004 at the Creative Arts Department of West College Scotland.
Naismith lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland
“I am constantly referring to the paradox of a cloud’s perceived weight and its fragility and the relationship between the cool and warm colours created by it.”
