Berlin-based artist, designer and image-maker Sarah Illenberger is renowned for transforming everyday objects into poetic, unexpected works of art.

Working across sculpture, installation and photography, she reimagines familiar materials and forms, inviting viewers to see the ordinary through a new lens. Her multidisciplinary practice blends art, design and visual storytelling, revealing the hidden beauty, symbolism and humour embedded in daily life.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, Illenberger developed a distinctive visual language rooted in craftsmanship, conceptual thinking and meticulous attention to detail. Rather than relying on digital manipulation alone, she often constructs intricate physical compositions by hand before capturing them photographically, creating images that feel both surreal and tangible.
Central to Illenberger's work is the transformation of commonplace objects. Plants, food, domestic items and found materials are rearranged and reinterpreted, challenging established meanings and encouraging moments of discovery. Through subtle interventions, she creates visual metaphors that are playful, thought-provoking and often infused with a sense of wonder.
In her celebrated Flowerworks series, Illenberger transforms flowers into spectacular firework displays, capturing fleeting moments of explosion, movement and light through meticulously constructed photographic compositions.
This playful shift in perception is characteristic of Illenberger's practice, where familiar objects are presented in unexpected ways, encouraging viewers to reconsider their assumptions and look beyond first impressions.
Illenberger has collaborated with leading international organisations including The New York Times, Hermès, Mykita and the Schaubühne, while exhibiting her work across Europe in galleries, museums and design festivals.
