Sara Sherwood
Sara Sherwood creates uplifting contemporary paintings that balance atmospheric abstraction with recognisable landscapes and cityscapes. Working predominantly in oils, her paintings are characterised by sweeping skies, luminous colours and expressive layers of texture that evoke a sense of joy, hope and connection.
Painting full-time since 2005, Sherwood's practice spans abstract works, landscapes and distinctive cityscapes inspired by places such as London and Edinburgh. Her process is intuitive and evolving; colours are mixed and layered freely, allowing each painting to develop organically while retaining an emotional connection to its subject matter. She works with brushes, palette knives and her hands to create depth, movement and rich surface texture.

I worked in London for many years from Chelsea to Tower Bridge so I just love the vibrancy, colours, reflections and the views across the River Thames. Old buildings juxtaposed to new: brickwork and stone against glass and steel; buildings reflected in glass windows; lights in offices at night that twinkle like stars; reflections in rainy puddles; warm orange traffic lights in November to bright blue airy summer skies against the sharp clean edges of the high rise.
