4–8 Maple Street | Sculptural Intervention

Where Steel Speaks: Honouring Structure Through Contemporary Form

Art Acumen was invited to curated a collection for the newly refurbished 4–8 Maple Street, a prominent office development located in the heart of Fitzrovia. Originally constructed in the early 20th century as a fire station, the site’s architectural legacy, cast-iron steel columns, structural beams, and a barrel-vaulted brick ceiling, now anchors its identity.

Taking inspiration from these features, we curated a series of wall-mounted sculptures crafted in Corten steel and powder-coated aluminium for the expansive reception area. These materials were chosen not only for their durability and visual harmony, but for their ability to reflect and respond to the industrial DNA of the building—a contemporary echo of its purposeful past.

Each sculpture engages with the building’s verticality, spatial dynamism and the subtle tension between raw form and refined finish. It’s an exhibition designed to enhance the tenant experience, provoke curiosity and embed cultural richness into the rhythm of arrival.

Art Acumen demonstrated an instinctive understanding of the building’s character and energy. Their proposal brought coherence, sophistication and emotional intelligence to a highly visible space, elevating the everyday with artistic purpose

This programme is a testament to our belief that art isn’t just about transformation, it’s about translation. A way to listen to the building’s story and retell it in sculptural form.
