Nicolas Jones

Nicolas Jones is a British painter of sublime, abstract landscapes. His works simplify landscape scenes into a pure celebrations of colour and light. Much of his inspiration has come from his travels to the Finnish Lapland.

During one of his residencies, he was able to immerse himself in the light and landscape of western Greenland and Baffin Island. From then on he became fascinated by the rich and varied beauty of the Artic. The ice, rock, water and light became central to his work and have been resulted in over fifty paintings. Taking further inspiration from the countryside around his Somerset home and visits to the Lake District and Scotland, Jones has sought to evoke the world of nature, of hills, mountains, water, skies, trees, and above all, light.
